Status Effects are temporary changes that can be both advantageous and disadvantageous depending on the source. This page outlines all of the current Status Changes and Status Ailments in Tales of the Rays.

Status Change

Characters can receive Status Changes from both allies and enemies. There are various effects that can enhance abilities ranging from increasing Attack Power and Movement Speed to diminishing ones that can reduce Defense and/or crippling the targets actions. Any individual hit from an attack can inflict a Status Change, even if the first hit is missed. For Mirrages, it is triggered on the final hit.

Status Changes, positve and negative alike do not stack with themselves, but they do with others. Physical Attack Increase a Positive Status Change that increases your Physical Attack and Burst Mode another Positive Status Change which also affects your Physical Attack will reach an upper limit rather than continuously stack. Now if a target was simultaneously afflicted with both Physical Defense Decrease and Arte Defense Decrease two Negative Status Changes, attacks that make use of both Physical and Arte damage would do more total damage than if only one were utilized.

5-Hit Combo Increase Basic Attack hit count to 5. Ix / Kocis exclusive arte.
Auto Guard Automatically Guard against enemy attacks.
All allies attacked by the arte user's targeted enemy will Auto-Guard that enemy's attack.
Iron Stance Break increases by +1
Targeted Enemy's Stagger Time will increase by +1 second.
Backstep Increases the number of Backsteps in a Combo to 2.
Backsteps will automatically occur for attacks on the ground when there are still Backsteps left in a combo.
CC Recovery gained from a Successful Backstep will be increased by (+5 CC / +15 AG).
Backstep’s dodge effect will last until the character lands on the ground.
Damage Reduction Damage taken is reduced to 1/4th of its strength.
Defense Bypass Enemy Defense stats are ignored for damage calculations.
Gain Iron Stance User gains Iron Stance.
While Iron Stance is active, every hit while Guarding will give an extra (+4 CC / +12 AG) to the user.
Ignore Element Resistance Elemental Resistances are ignored for damage calculations.
Iron Stance Reduction Increase enemy Iron Stance Reduction by +1 for 1st Normal Attack after activation.
Enemy Stagger Time upon Iron Stance Break increased by +1 second.
Spells gain additional Iron Stance Break equal to their CC cost.
Mirrage Gauge Boost All allies gradually gain MG for the duration of the effect.
Allies will only gain 1/3 of the amount User gains.
Negate Spell Spell artes casted by foes will be Negated.
Negated artes will briefly show an Iron Stance plate on the enemy.
Stagger Time Increase enemy Stagger Time by +0.25 seconds.
Attacks can pick up enemy from their Downed state, putting them back in a Staggering state.
Burst Mode

Increase Physical Attack, Arte Attack, and Movement Speed.
Gain Iron Stance mid-arte.
CC Recovery (Burst) Recover Chain Capacity / Action Gauge (+15 CC / +45 AG) in 3 bursts for (+45 CC / +135 AG) total.
CC Recovery (Speed Up) Increase Chain Capacity / Action Gauge recovery speed.
Counterattack

Enemy hits are automatically countered.
Counterheal Recover HP when unguarded damage is taken.
Critical Up

When attacking, the direction or position of the attack can change unexpectedly.
Increase Stagger Duration for foes with a natively short duration.
Increase effects of the Critical +1 and Critical +2 Enhancements.
Fatigue

Increase Stagger duration when attacked.
Paralysis

With every attempt to Attack or Cast artes may randomly fail and cause the target to Stagger.
Petrification

Prevent Movement.
Each hit does damage equal to half of the targets current HP.
When dropped to 1 HP with associated status ailment the target receives the Stun effect.
Poison
Damage the target at regular intervals, until cured or their HP is 1.
When dropped to 1 HP with associated Status Ailment the target receives the Stun effect.
Slow
鈍足
Reduce Movement Speed.
Stun
気絶
Prevent Movement for a short period of time or until hit.
Terror
恐怖
Reduce Chain Capacity / Action Gauge recovery speed.
Weakness

Effects that positively impact the target in some way or form.

General

Below are the Positive Status Changes that have unique icons. These effects focus on increasing Attack, Defense, and Movement Speed.

Overray

Overray Effects are Positive Status Changes that are gained from activating an Overray Mirrage. Though they also have unique effects, they all share a unique icon.

  • Cannot be activated via Friend Mirrage.

5-Hit Combo Increase Basic Attack hit count to 5. Ix / Kocis exclusive arte.
Auto Guard Automatically Guard against enemy attacks.
All allies attacked by the arte user's targeted enemy will Auto-Guard that enemy's attack.
Iron Stance Break increases by +1
Targeted Enemy's Stagger Time will increase by +1 second.
Backstep Increases the number of Backsteps in a Combo to 2.
Backsteps will automatically occur for attacks on the ground when there are still Backsteps left in a combo.
CC Recovery gained from a Successful Backstep will be increased by (+5 CC / +15 AG).

Elemental based Positive Status Change that imbues a characters artes with the elements. This can be treated as a second, or even third element depending on the artes used.

  • Artes with No Element gain one.
  • Artes that share the imbued element will not deal additional damage.

Status Ailments

There are artes that have a chance to inflict Status Ailments, either as an initial effect or as a result of Enhancement. Like Status Changes, Enemies can inflict Status Ailments on the player and vice versa. Multiple Status Ailments cannot be inflicted at the same time, the first that is inflicted will take precedence.

Any individual hit from an Arte can inflict a Status Ailment, even if the first hit is missed. If a character tries to inflict a Status Ailment on a foe and the word Block appears, the foe is immune to the Status Ailment.

  • All Ailments with the except K.O. will expire after a certain period of time.
  • Artes such as Recover can remove Status Ailments.

Effects gained from Arte Enhancement.
