Tales of the Rays: Recollection

Tales of the Rays: Recollection is a game mode introduced in the 5.0.0 Tales of the Rays update, where you clear quests with a battle system separate from the ordinary system. It can be accessed from the “Recollection” button at the bottom of the home screen.

Recollection is divided by individual Tales series. You challenge quests using parties of that game’s characters only. Clearing quest battles awards “Memorial Star Memorial Stars”, which raise the Series Level and unlock Historic Chronicles for each game that retell highlights of the original story.

As you raise the level for each series, the sum of all levels raises the Recollection Rank. The Recollection Rank leveling up unlocks the Recollection Main Story. Additionally, raising Recollection’s Series Level by gathering Memorial Star Memorial Stars for it unlocks Recollection Skits.

Recruit the Recollection Cast via the Main Story

The Main Story scenarios are unlocked by raising the Recollection Rank. You can recruit the Recollection Cast by reading the Main Story which is fully voiced. New story will be added during Recollection updates.

Story Battles

Only the Recollection cast can participate in these battles. The Recollection Story battle party composition is stored separately from Recollection mission battles, but Arte settings are shared.

There are the following differences from Recollection Quest Battles:

  • No challenge attempts cost.
  • No Memorial Star Memorial Stars reward.
  • No Series Mission points from actions in these battles.
  • No Auto Chain customization after battle.

Rank

For every 10 cumulative series levels, the Recollection Rank will go up 1. Increasing Recollection Rank will unlock more of the Recollection Main Story.

If there is a battle following the story section, you cannot proceed to the next scenario if you don’t clear the battle.

Unlocking Series

Illusion Lamp

New series can be unlocked from the game select screen. Illusion Lamp Illusion Lamps are needed to unlock each series. As the number of series unlocked increases, the unlock cost will increase as well. One Illusion Lamp Illusion Lamp for the first, two for the second, and so on.

Illusion Lamp Illusion Lamps can be obtained from Recollection Rank level ups, mission rewards for reaching specific Series Levels, and as rewards in certain events.

Update Groups

New Skits and Historic Chronicles will be added according to the update groups given below:

  • Tales of the Rays: Recollection series will always be active.

Series Mission

Memorial Star

Each series has missions fulfilled by completing quests. Memorial Star Memorial Stars are rewarded for completing them.
The mission types are:

  • Use specific character [x] number of times
  • Earn cumulative score
  • Number of enemies defeated
  • / Mirrage Artes used

The character for the specific character use mission changes daily at (00:00 JST). You can view the progress on missions and the daily mission character from the Series Status -> Series Mission screen.

Series Level

Characters Unlock through Scenarios

Every 3 Memorial Star Memorial Stars gathered raises the Series Level by 1. As the series level increases, you earn Series Party Bonuses. You also unlock Skits (Recollection) or Historical Chronicles (all other series) as well as other rewards. You may also unlock characters by clearing scenarios.

Quest Selection

Pickup Quest List

You can challenge quests from each series from its screen. 5 will be chosen from within the currently unlocked quests. Quests refresh at a fixed time daily (00:00 JST), or on successful completion of any quest in that series.

Quest Unlock

New quests become available as the Series Level increases, and will be added to the quest selection pool. Quest unlock conditions may be confirmed from each series’ “Series Condition” button.

Boss Quest

Strong enemies will appear in quests marked as “boss” on the selection screen. Series-specific enemies may also appear.

Hard Mode

All series quests also have a High Difficulty Mode. When a series enters “Hard Mode,” it will remain in that mode until 23:59. In order to activate Hard Mode, the following conditions must be met:

  • There are 5 or more open series.
  • More than 10 quests have 3 Memorial Star Memorial Stars obtained for a select series.

Challenge Attempts

Each quest consumes 1 challenge attempt. However, retreat or retry do not consume an attempt.

Attempts refill daily at fixed intervals (00:00 JST). They can also be refilled with Diamonds or Mirrogems.

The number of attempts recovered scales according to the number of series unlocked.

There is an upper limit to the number of available attempts. Daily refresh cannot exceed the upper limit. However, restoring attempts with Diamonds or Mirrogems may break the cap. The upper limit increases by 1 for each series unlocked. When all series are unlocked the maximum is 39.

Memorial Stars

Memorial Star Memorial Stars are awarded upon battle clear. One orb is given per each of the following conditions:

  • Defeat the boss.
  • Without a Boss Ambush occurring, defeat the boss.
  • Without a Boss Ambush occurring, defeat the boss with time remaining.
  • (Hard Mode) Without a boss ambush occurring, defeat the boss with a / Mirrage with time remaining.

Conditions can be confirmed in the battle pause menu. Gather orbs to raise the Series Level. The sum of the Series Level raises the Recollections Rank. Similar to AP, every 3 Memorial Star Memorial Star raises the Series Level.

Arte Formation in Recollection Mode

You can only use characters from that game in each series’ quests. To set your party, use the “Formation Button” to open the party screen. The first time you open a series’ screen, a maximum of four characters will be set as the party, determined by battle power in descending order.

  • Recollection Mode party formation is separate from the ordinary party formation.

Character Strength

Character and Equipment level are not reflected in Recollection. Characters in Recollection Mode are strengthened by gaining “Series Party Enhancements”.
The following effects are disabled in Recollection Mode:

  • Series Index Stat Boosts.
  • Arte Ratio Stat Boosts.
  • Master-Student Stat Boosts.
  • Character Level 80 Stat Boosts.

Character Artes

From the party formation screen, use the “Arte Change” button per character to set artes. The first time you enter a specific game’s screen after unlocking it, currently set artes will be automatically imported.

Arte enhancements are not reflected in Recollection mode. Arte enhancements can be raised if selected via “Series Party Enhancements”.

  • (術技強化Lv・魔鏡技強化Lv) Arte/Mirrage Enhancement Level]

Only a Main Mirrage can be set, in addition to your Spirit Gear if acquired.

  • In battle you are still able to utilize the Mirrage Wheel to select a different Mirrage.

Recollection Mode Arte settings are saved separately from arte settings used in the main gameplay.

Series Party Enhancement

These are effects that raise character strength and arte enhancements. Each time the Series Level increases, you are given 3 random bonuses to select 1 from. The chosen effect is applied to all characters belonging to a series.

10 Restore 2% HP After Each Wave Begins

5 Increased Mirrage Arte Damage When Chained

By default, Master Arte activation is from AG100 or higher. This allows you to activate it earlier.

When taking damage while AG is under 100, it will be converted therefore raising your AG up to 100.
This is active after Auto-Steps run out.

Battle Mode

Recollection Mode battle controls are not fundamentally very different from ordinary battles. However, a number of special rules apply.

  • The camera viewpoint changes, focusing more closely on characters.
  • Four artes may be chained together.
  • Including a Quick Step, another four artes may be chained.
    • Initially this may only be done once, but but the number can be increased through Series Party Enhancements.

Wave System

The battle system is made up of a succession of waves. Each wave has an associated time limit. If you defeat all enemies within the time limit, the next wave will activate.

Any remaining time from the cleared wave will be appended to the next. If time expires before reaching the wave in which the boss appears, the boss will spawn immediately in a Boss Ambush.

If available characters in a series possess an Origin MA, some amount of time is added to Wave 1 for battles in that series.

Battle Score

The battle score is calculated at the clear time. Base score is set per battle and increases with quest level. You can view the details of the score sum via the Battle Score details button. Use the score bonus and penalty information to aim for higher scores!

For example, if available characters in a series possess an Origin MA, battles in that series receive a score boost according to MA Limit Break.

Auto Play

The auto button in the upper left corner of the screen can be tapped to toggle auto mode.

  • AUTO OFF - If no attacks are entered, the character enters standby.
  • AUTO ON - All controls are performed automatically.
  • REPEAT - If no attacks are entered, the last combo performed is repeated.

Pause Menu

Pausing battle brings up the battle pause screen. The following information can be confirmed from the pause menu:

  • Memorial Star Memorial Star collection conditions and status
  • Auto-Chain artes and character strategy
  • Auto-Chain specifics such as chain bonus

Trust Points

Trust Points are awarded upon quest clear. All party characters earn 50 points, or in the case of a Passport being active, double for 100 points.

(AG) Active Gauge

(AG) Active Gauge

AG is short for Active Gauge. AG increases as artes are used. The AG increase is proportional to the Chain Capacity cost of Artes in the normal combat mode. Depending on the current AG value, various multipliers are applied.

The multipliers are decided at the beginning of a Combo Chain. If the AG during the Chain rises to a different multiplier tier, the effect does not apply within the same Combo Chain.

How to Manage

The Active Gauge decreases during Standby and Guard, but the recovery speed decreases the longer you remain in one of these states. Rather than recovering all AG at once it’s beneficial to lower it a bit at a time. JUST Evade will greatly reduce AG.

Master Artes

Depending on the Active Gauge value when a 5* is used, either the Base Arte or the Master Arte will be activated.

  • General 5★: Activated when AG exceeds 100.
    • Can be lowered with a Series Party Enhancement to AG 70.
  • Reverse 5★: Activated from Standby or while moving when AG is at 0.

200%

Active Gauge 200%

When the character enters Standby after reaching AG 200, they become Stunned. Stun will be released when AG drops below 75% again. AG reduction speed when Stunned is 2x as fast as reduction speed during an ordinary Standby.

Quick Step

You can activate Quick Step by performing a short flick on the left side of the screen. Avoid enemy attacks, circle around behind them, and instantly control the distance to enemies!

A flick from left to right circles around to the enemy’s back. A downward swipe performs a front or Backstep.

HP Cost

Using a Quick Step costs 3% of your Maximum HP. If you input another Quick Step before the consumed HP has restored, even more HP is used, so exercise care.

  • 3% -> 6% -> 9% (Max).
  • If HP is at 1, Quick Step cannot be used.

JUST Evade

If you dodge an enemy attack with Quick Step, a “JUST Evade” will activate. Additional effects occur JUST Evade activates.

  • The HP consumed by the Quick Step will heal instantly.
  • The Character will be invincible for 0.5 seconds.
  • AG will be reduced.
  • A 0.5s delay before the next enemy attack. (The enemy whose hit you JUST Evaded)

For the duration of that combo, the character can perform one additional Quick Step without interrupting the next attack.

Auto Step

If the character receives an attack when not Guarding, an Auto Step will trigger and evade, identical to a JUST Evade. The number of Auto Step activations is limited and is shared by the party. Initially the limit is 3 autosteps, but the number may be increased with series bonuses to a maximum of 10 Auto Steps.

Settings

You can enable Quick Step controls on the right half of the screen from the Options Menu. In this case, the same controls can be used by inputting a flick on the right half of the screen.

Auto Chain Arte Change Menu

If you hold on the right side of the screen without a flick (long press), the previously set Arte chain to a maximum of 4 artes will be performed consecutively. If performing an Auto Chain while moving or while paused, 2(+) basic attacks will be automatically performed before linking to the Arte Chain. If you activate Auto Chain during a combo, Auto Chain artes will activate according to the number of inputs used in the combo.

Backsteps do not count as an input in terms of the Auto Chain System.

Change Artes

Auto Chain Artes are set from the “Customize Chance” menu that appears after clearing a battle. Only the character set in the first slot in that battle will receive this option. One arte may be set from a random selection.

Chain Bonus

Depending on the artes linked together for the Auto Chain, a Chain Bonus may occur. The types of Chain Bonuses are as follows:

Rarity Zero Weapons are treated as 0★, so placing them in the first slot makes it easier to earn a Master bonus.

Smash Abilities

There is a chance for certain buffs to activate per enemy defeated. Smash Ability is fixed per character according to their Latent Skill. The chance of occurrence increases proportional to Trust level and Series Level.

Active Gauge

The Active Gauge (敵撃破時AG ) Smash Ability recovers the Active Gauge. Active Gauge -20 when defeating an enemy.

Characters with the Brave Soul & Cheerful Soul Latent Skills have this ability.

When healed with an Arte, the HP recovered is increased by 10% of the total heal power.
Active Gauge -20 when defeating an enemy.

元気の魂
Whether idle or in motion you recover 1% of your total HP per second.
Active Gauge -20 when defeating an enemy.

Mirrage Gauge

The Mirrage Gauge (敵撃破時MG ) Smash Ability increases the Mirrage Gauge. Mirrage Gauge increase rate +25% when defeating an enemy.

Characters with the Virtuous Soul Latent Skill have this ability.

Buff Time

The Buff Time (敵撃破時被バフ時間 ) Smash Ability increases Status Buff timers. Increase buff effect time by +3 seconds when defeating an enemy.

Characters with the Stalwart Soul Latent Skill have this ability.

When attacking, the odds of Autoguard activating from receiving a Physical Attack is increased by 10%.

Debuff Time

The Debuff Time (敵撃破時被デバフ時間 ) Smash Ability decreases Status Debuff timers. Decrease debuff effect time by -5 seconds when defeating an enemy.

Characters with the Headstrong Soul Latent Skill have this ability.

Recover HP

The Recover HP (敵撃破時HP回復 ) Smash Ability as it sounds, recovers HP. Recover +5% HP when defeating an enemy.

Characters with the Calm Soul & Sagacious Soul Latent Skills have this ability.

Invincible

The Invincible (敵撃破時無敵 ) Smash Ability bestows temporary Invincibility. Invincible for 1 second when defeating an enemy.

Characters with the Independent Soul & Solitary Soul Latent Skills have this ability.

When using an Arte you gain a 10% chance to reduce the cost of the Arte by 1 CC/3 AG.
Invincible for 1 second when defeating an enemy.
Solitary Soul
孤高の魂
When using an Arte that has an element or inflicts Status Ailments, boost the odds of the effect occurring by 2%.
Invincible for 1 second when defeating an enemy.

Mirrage

The Mirrage Gauge is shared by the entire party rather than individual characters. The gauge can fill to a maximum of 4 bars, allowing 4 consecutive Mirrage Arte uses. Due to this, Crossover Mirrages cannot use shared activation.

Arte JUST Chains do not receive increased MG. Whether the arte chain activates JUST or not, the MG gain will be the same.

Activation Count

Each time a / Mirrage is activated the power receives a multiplier. However, the MG fills more slowly the more Mirrage activations (or possible Mirrage activations) have occurred.

Spirit Gear

Spirit Gear cannot be set as a Main Mirrage, but can be accessed when swiping through Mirrage Wheel in battle. The rarity level of an SG does affect its activation in this mode.

  • The Fairy Gauge does not apply.

Form Change

Unlike in the main game mode, a Mirrage set as the Form Change Mirrage needs MG to activate. For this reason, Mirrage set for Form Change can only be activated when you could otherwise activate an Mirrage Arte. The character change function works identically to the main game mode.

Recommended Mirrage Level

In addition to Rare Enhancements, Mirrage Artes receive a damage multiplier depending on the level at which they are activated, according to the following:

Kodama's Origin Mirrage

Characters possessing an Origin Mirrage give the following benefits:

  • Wave Time extension (Wave 1).
  • Battle Score bonus.

Both effects increase depending on the number of Mirrages. How far they're Limit Broken only affects the Battle Score. Origin MA effects can be confirmed in the Series Status -> Series Bonuses screen.
