Artes have both elemental and non-elemental attributes. Attacking a foe with an arte that they have a weakness to will increase the damage inflicted by 1.25x.
General
There are Six Elements: 
Fire, 
Water, 
Earth, 
Wind, 
Light, & 
Dark.
WEAK
The opponent's weakness can be checked with the Target Change button in-battle. WEAK is displayed in red when attacking with the target enemies elemental weakness.
REDUCE
There are some enemies with elemental resistance that will reduce other elements instead of taking additional damage from the weakness damage. This special resistance is not seen when using the Target Change button, only seen when REDUCE appears when attacking. Enemies with this mainly appear in higher difficulty content. Non-Element Artes damage values do not change under these conditions.
